Meet the Instructors

 

Dane Gregory

Dane Gregory has a vast and expansive industry background. Most recently, he chaired the Stone, Masonry, and Tile Cleaning (SMT) Committee with the IICRC. He is the past president of the IICRC. He owned a successful cleaning and restoration business in Stevens Point for many years, which he sold a couple of years back to focus full time on consulting. He has served as a teacher and consultant to insurance companies, carpet mills, cleaning and restoration equipment and chemical manufacturers, and many others. Dane also has served as a manufacturer’s representative for a major supplier of specialty stone care products.

Dane is an approved instructor for IICRC Classes in the areas of Carpet Cleaning, Upholstery Cleaning, Commercial Carpet Cleaning, and Hard Surface Floor Cleaning (FCT). He will also be teaching Fast Track Technical and Business Growth Classes. Dane is developing the Bridgepoint School for the new IICRC approved category of Stone, Masonry, and Tile Cleaning Technician (SMT).

 

Jim Bardwell

Jim hails from south Louisiana, were the art of story telling is a time honored tradition. He served his country as an Army paratrooper and then as a weapons technician for the Dept. of Defense.

Jim started in the cleaning/restoration industry 8 years ago as a Restoration Service technician in a multi truck operation in Houston, TX. His eagerness to learn and his commitment to customer satisfaction ensured his rapid advancement. Serving in many capacities, he learned all facets of operating a high end, multi truck operation. Jim helped lead the company to rapid growth in both size and profits.

He now serves as the firm’s national sales director in charge of all sales and customer service departments. Jim also works as a consultant and an instructor helping many companies around the country achieve their goals.

So what ever the topic, Jim's real world experience and down home humorous style will both educate and entertain.

 

Joe Dobbins

Joe teaches with a background of over 22 years in the cleaning and restoration business. He has ongoing experiences daily in direct operations of construction, professional cleaning, restoration, inspection and consultation allowing him to relate both practical as well as educational help to individual cleaners and business owners. He is a Master Textile Cleaner, Master Smoke Restorer, Master Water Restorer and Senior Carpet Inspector. Being one of the industry’s foremost authorities on restoration topics, he is a licensed general contractor whose firm still processes hundreds of fire, water and mold losses annually with a teaching style of down-to-earth yet a dynamic personality.

Joe is certified in all divisions of the IICRC, an Executive Committee officer of the IICRC and currently holds the position of Chair of the Certification Council for the IICRC, overseeing all four divisions - cleaning, inspection, restoration and hard surface / maintenance cleaning. These divisions consist of 22 different Technical Advisory Committees for all the different certification courses.

As an approved school with the IICRC and instructor for the National Center for Advanced Training, he is currently an instructor in Carpet Cleaning, Odor Control, Upholstery Cleaning, Water Damage Restoration, Fire/Smoke Damage Restoration, Color Repair/Spot Dye, and Applied Structural Drying. Joe's ASD facility is a fully furnished 1250 sq. ft. house built as a training facility. He is also approved with approximately 20 states to teach continuing education to the insurance industry in Water, Mold, Fire and Odor classes.

 

Steve Andrews

Steve is a long-term veteran of the cleaning industry, with over 27 years experience. He knows what it means to do all types of cleaning related duties from scrubbing toilets to cleaning custom hand-tufted gold inlaid carpets; from answering maintenance questions for a commercial building to giving testimony as an expert witness in a full-jury trial, including arbitrations.

Steve has owned and operated a multi-truck cleaning business, a Full-Service Distribution Center for the Cleaning and Restorations Industry, trained housekeeping departments in the care and maintenance of everything from concrete steps, carpet, and upholstery to mattresses and ovens.

Steve is a practicing senior inspector and works with fiber producers, chemical manufacturers, and carpet mills, as well as providing consulting and training for resort properties, large theme parks and individuals. Steve is also a Master Cleaner with many areas of certifications; Water Damage, Odor Control, Repair & Reinstallation, Color Repair, Certification Number 240. Steve has been actively traveling and teaching IICRC Certification Classes since 1999.

 

George Cazares

George Cazares, President of SEISC Enterprise, LLC and has been involved in the cleaning and restoration industry since 1986. George is an IICRC Master Cleaner and Master Restoration Technician. He has been approved by the IICRC to teach the subjects of Water Damage Restoration Technician, Carpet Repair & Reinstallation, Odor Control, Color Repair Technician, Carpet Cleaning, Commercial Maintenance Technician and Upholstery & Fabric Technician.

George’s varied experience gives him extensive knowledge and hands-on techniques that relate to the every day operations of a cleaning and restoration company. George also served as a technical trainer and operations manager for a large multi-truck, multi-state operation for 10 years in the Northwest and Southern California.

His determination and passion for providing quality training with a lot of enthusiasm in either English or Spanish will build a stronger foundation for the next generation of service professionals.

 

Sherman Guffy

Sherman Guffy is a second generation industry veteran who instructs many industry related courses, including IICRC approved courses in carpet cleaning, commercial carpet cleaning, upholstery cleaning, carpet repair, water damage restoration, and odor control. Sherman is an IICRC Approved Instructor, Master Cleaner, Master Restoration Technician and an IICRC Regional Supervisor. His experience in this industry began in 1980 working for a large fire, smoke, water restoration and in-plant cleaning operation. Sherman's years of hands-on experience include 12 years as operations manager, trainer and instructor for a large multi-truck, multi-state operation.

Sherman brings a unique style of instruction to each of his classes, based on in-plant and on location experience; students receive practical training for every-day real-life situations. In addition, each class is filled with digital pictures, slides, and lots of hands on learning, which gives the students one of the best learning experiences available in the industry.

 

Doug Heiferman

As an Approved IICRC Instructor, Doug Heiferman has traveled the United States teaching textile cleaning and restoration courses for the past eleven years. He instructs classes on oriental rug cleaning, tile and grout cleaning, wood cleaning, leather cleaning, odor control as well as business marketing and management classes.

In addition to teaching, Doug is an IICRC Certified Master Textile Cleaner and was owner/operator of a successful textile cleaning and restoration company for 16 years. Doug has a diversified business background and has gained valuable experience working for corporations such as Lillian Vernon, Federated Department Stores, and Citibank in the areas of purchasing, inventory control, credit and collections, and finance. He has earned degrees in Business Administration and Political Science.

Doug's positive attitude combined with a motivating teaching style makes him one of the most requested instructors in the country. He is well known for teaching his students how to be ultra competitive in today's fast paced business environment through the use of advanced technical skills and innovative sales and marketing techniques.

 

Dennis Klager

Dennis graduated from Northeastern University in Boston in 1973 with a BA in Business Administration. He lived in Long Island, NY where he managed several businesses, including his own vending machine business which he sold in 1983 and moved, with his family, to Houston, Texas.

Dennis has been in the carpet cleaning business for almost 20 years. In 1984, he started out as a single truck operator for three or four years and then added a second truck. For the next six years, his specialization was flood restoration, and he did hundreds of flood restoration projects. He joined Howard Partridge and Scott Zack in 1997 at Clean as a Whistle Inc. as Vice President of Operations where he trains thirty-five employees and oversees the plant and equipment. He is a past carpet inspector and is currently an IICRC Master Cleaner.

 

Tony Macaluso

Tony Macaluso is a veteran of thirty years in the cleaning and restoration industry. As an owner of Sunshine Fabric Cleaning & Restoration Company in Austin, Texas, his company has provided services in cleaning and restoration since 1973. As administrator of TM Cleaning & Restoration Schools, Tony has taught numerous classes throughout the world. He also provides consulting and teaching services for several organizations.

Tony is currently serving as Chairman of the Odor Control Committee on the Technical Advisory Board of IICRC, as well as a member of the Standards Committee on "Water Damage Restoration." He was also a Founding Father and past President of the Southwest Carpet Cleaners Association, which is now the Professional Cleaning And Restoration Alliance (PCRA).

Tony is certified as a Master Cleaner, Master Restoration Technician and Senior Carpet Inspector #0797 with IICRC, Master Deflooding and Restoration specialist with C.D.R.N., Certified Mold Remediation Specialist with the AmIAQ, and Certified Restorer #70 with A.S.C.R.

 

Chris Avendano

Chris Avendano has spearheaded the development of hard surface floor cleaning divisions at two large carpet cleaning companies in Texas and Florida. He is the founder of www.hardsurfacefloors.com and the author of the Accelerated Tile and Grout Technician Training Module as well as the Jump Start Wood Floor Cleaning and Refinishing Module. Chris has served as a trainer and consultant for hundreds of cleaning company’s successful expansions into residential and commercial hard surface floor cleaning.

Born and raised in Costa Rica, Central America. Chris enrolled in an exchange program with the United States Embassy and a Scholarship through a Costa Rican program and received a Civil Engineer Technology degree (NICET) in 1995 at University of Houston. He is an instructor for Fast Track Cleaning and Power-Up Hands-On Hard Surface Seminars given through the nation with a successful demand. He holds certifications thru the IICRC for Floor Care, Carpet Cleaning, and Stone, Masonry & Tile Cleaning. Chris is fluent in English and Spanish.

 

Steve Poulos

Steve G. Poulos lives, breathes and sleeps for a chance to talk dirt! He has been in the cleaning and restoration business for over 20 years and has trained several thousand cleaners in the technical as well as the business aspects of the industry. He brings with him not only a vast knowledge of the business but a true love for the industry. Because of the many hats he wears Steve’s innovative approach to new ideas and products have allowed for opportunities to teach in all parts of the U.S. as well as England and Australia.

Steve’s expertise comes from years of experiences with his own cleaning and restoration firms. He has also worked along side with interior designers, carpet manufactures, adjusters, departments of health and the University of North Carolina. Steve’s background in finance along with strong customer service ethics puts him as a true leader in the industry as well as a sort out source for knowledge and education.

Steve is an IICRC Master Textile Cleaner and Restorer and just completed Leather Cleaning Technician (LCT). He held a position for 6 years on the Board of Directors with the Mid South Professional Cleaners Association and served as the Executive Director during their reorganization. Steve has served as the Regional Editor of Cleanfax for 5 years and has also served on the CUCI council of ASCR.

 

Tom Slattery

Tom has been involved with all aspects of the cleaning industry since he was able to help his dad as a child. He started in the hard floor care industry, then joined a progressive and diverse janitorial supply house. During Tom’s 12 years there, he assisted many companies to grow and increase their profits. His broad knowledge was well used in many roles including Service Manager, Salesman, Teacher and Education Coordinator. Along with Tom’s frequent teaching obligations, he now owns and operates a rapidly growing janitorial firm.

Tom’s credentials include IICRC Master Cleaner, Master Restoration Technician, and Master Fire & Smoke Restorer. He holds certification in Carpet Cleanin, Upholstery Cleaning, Water Damage Restoration, Odor Control, Color Repair, Carpet Repair, Fire Restoration, Leather Cleaning, Center for Advanced Drying, Mold and Sewage Decontamination, Dale Carnegie Public Speaking as well as Sales Awards and Service Technician courses.

Tom’s knowledge and determination to making sure his students learn is always evident and well appreciated.

 

Howard Partridge

Howard Partridge is one of the most respected and experienced speakers in the cleaning industry. He started his carpet cleaning company from the trunk of his car in 1984. It has become one of the most successful residential carpet cleaning companies in the country. The company bills over $2 million in annual revenue, and employs 33 people. The company also enjoys being the highest priced carpet cleaning company in the Houston area.
